Weapons in Movies - Supernatural (TV Series) - Ruby’s Knife
For those who don’t watch it, Supernatural is a TV series that presents the adventures and lives of two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, that follow their father’s footsteps as ‘hunters’ fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth.
In the series, the mentioned knife originally belonged to Ruby (a demon) and is capable of destroying most demons; albeit at the cost of killing their human hosts at the same time. The knife looks like a normal hunting knife, wood or bone handle, single edge blade, and notched spine. Though, the blade is inscribed with symbols.
The maker and designer of this weapon are unknown. However, the language of the writing on the knife looks to be Indo-European, most likely Kurdish or Farsi. Alistair (demon) is immune to its killing power but the weapon can cause him great pain. This knife also has no effect on Angels (as shown in the season’s 4, first episode, “Lazarus Rising”).
The knife appears throughout the entire series. First Appearance happened on “The Magnificent Seven” episode, while the last (for now) on season 8, episode 2 “What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?”. In “The Magnificent Seven” episode Ruby appears during the battle with the Seven Deadly Sins, and kills three of the demons with this knife.
In “What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?” Dean uses the knife to kill a demon after Sam forces the demon back into her body with a reverse exorcism. In the same episode Dean spots the knife and grabs it to go after Crowley who is possessing one of the characters and fights Crowley and tries to slit his/her throat.
